Giving

‘For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich’ - 2 Corinthians 8 verse 9.

We long that it is the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ that informs and transforms our giving, both in our energies and gifts in service of Him and also in the giving of our money.

Financing the ministry of City Church is dependent upon the generous, joyful and sacrificial giving of the church family and friends, particularly because we do not receive any finances from a denominational body.

There is a temptation in a large congregation like City Church to feel that your contribution doesn’t make much of a difference. However, since we are active in training, equipping and sending out many gifted men and women for full-time ministry in the wider church as well as church planting through the 2020 Birmingham initiative, we need every member of the City Church family to consider making some contribution, however large or small, to support the gospel ministry.

Mission & Ministry Gift Day 2013 : Target £79,200

Why does City Church hold an annual Gift Day?

1. City Church is a self-funded church. We do not belong to a denomination or external organisation which finances our ministry. Instead we are dependent upon the generous giving of our members and congregation to fund the work of the church.
2. As a city-focused church we experience a high turnover of people. Each year about one fifth of  church regulars move on to pastures new to be replaced by many newcomers. The Gift Day is often their first introduction to how the church’s ministries are financed.
3. The Gift Day is also an opportunity for City regulars to budget their giving for the coming year. By doing so we can all help the church to wisely steward the resources we expect he will give us.
4. The Gift Day provides an opportunity for us to hear about the needs of the church for the year ahead and to provide a focus for our prayers and giving.

City Church's ministries fall into:-

Central church ministries: The ministries that take place in most local churches. These ministries are funded entirely by the regular giving of our congregation.

Extended church ministries: Some of the ministries we enable through our giving are not so typical of a local church, e.g. as a city church we have a ministry to 130 students (both UK and International) - to enable this, we employ student workers and ministry trainees. Reaching our Gift Day target of £79,200 will mean that we will be able to sustain our ministries.

We hope to raise these funds from within the City Church family (£40.5K), and from friends in the wider church (£38.7K).

Please prayerfully consider if you might be able to help us in this aim.
