Welcome to Birmingham!!

City Church is committed to serving the City of Birmingham, and welcoming students is an essential part of serving Birmingham.

Students eating pizzaWe want City Church to be a place where students can feel at home and grow in their faith in Jesus during their time here.

We have students from all four universities in Birmingham and they are encouraged to come to our Sunday evening service at 6pm which is followed by our student meeting – StudentPlus.

This webpage is just an intro. For any more info or if you would like a free student welcome pack that will tell you a bit more about student activity at City please email us, give us a call or check us out on facebook!

Mike ForsytheAs a fresher I think it is important to find fellowship and support at University as soon as possible. Therefore it was important to find a solid Bible based Christian Church which is geared for student needs, City is just that. City is great, there are lots of Christians there who are willing to share their faith with anyone, and StudentPlus provides great teaching (and pizza) on student related issues.

Stephanie LowesOne of the best things about being a student at City Church is that they really welcome you!  It is easy as a student not to get involved and not to really meet anyone, but StudentPlus was a great way to meet people from other universities and to feel part of the church.  I also learnt loads, especially as I took part in a midweek meet-up with other students in the church office, so I have definitely grown as a result…  This is hugely important as first year, and placement year, is a really testing time, and having that support makes all the difference.

I personally also joined the music team, as did many of my friends, which helped me to meet people in the church that weren’t students.  It is too easy to get stuck in a student bubble and meeting people outside of it, gives a whole other perspective.  Of course, what you put in is what you get out as ever, but there are so many opportunities that I really don’t believe anyone could feel left out at City!!

Matthew FosterThe bible, God’s people, pizza, great getaways... this and alot more is whats great about StudentPlus. Its been great getting solid teaching straight from the bible, and also applying it. The weekend away; this was good, very good, challenging/deep/funny talks helping my heart to grow more for God, ALOT of chocolate and getting to know a heap of great people. This is why StudentPlus is as a must.

Nicola HellarI love StudentPlus! It has been so great to be fed from God's word each week and to commit to a group of people with in Church. I’ve found that it really supplements CU because I’m learning how to handle God’s word in the Bible studies and I can throw lots of awkward questions at our leaders!

Sundays@6pm

Sunday evening is our main service for students. We meet to sing and pray together, hear testimonies and most of all to listen to God speak to us as the bible is taught. Many students serve during our services, whether it’s helping with the PA, welcoming new people, playing the music or looking after children.

Look at the program page to see what's happening this term in the evenings. After every service we enjoy coffee and biscuits together with other people from the church.

StudentPlus - Sundays@7:30pm

Immediately after the evening service we run our student meeting called StudentPlus. StudentPlus is essentially our student ‘cell group’ where we look at the Bible, pray and eat pizza. City Church put a lot of time, effort, and prayer into running StudentPlus because we want all of our students to feel like they belong…

Students studying the BibleStudents studying the Bible

We want you to grow to belong to God more and more, that’s why we look at the bible together. Week by week we hear His voice and help each other respond in trust, worship and obedience.

Student BBQStudentPlus is also the place where we can belong to each other more and more. Almost every week we hear about each others lives in testimony slots and we pray for each other. At the end of the evening students from across the city will spend time together eating pizza, getting to know each other and looking out for each other.

We also want you to grow to belong to the church more and more as the student team get to know you and look out for you. Over the year we hope that you will enjoying serving God, the wider church and Birmingham in whatever ways you can and get to know the wider church at coffee times and over Sunday lunch etc…

It’s all about belonging!

Student Plus

There are loads of other things for students happening throughout the year including:

The StudentPlus Weekend Away – 48 hours together in Wales (almost), with great teaching, lots of food and the best hot chocolate in the world!

The Great Guys/Girls Getaway - the guys and girls go away separately on to get stuck in to a book together and enjoy some time in the countryside.

Look out for Jonti and Mim who are two members of the City Church staff team dedicated to looking after students. We also have a few ministry trainees, recent graduates doing a year out with the church who meet up with students during the week. The rest of the student team is made up of members of the congregation.

Sundays@10.30am

Morning Service

Our morning service is for the whole church family and many students appreciate the opportunity to come to church twice on a Sunday. Some also serve the church in this service. There is an ever increasing Sunday school ministry & once a month the whole church family meets for lunch & to share the Lord's Supper.
