What?
Grace Church Stirchley-Cotteridge is the first daughter congregation of City Church. It started meeting at Easter 2007. It was planted for various reasons, including:
- Theologically because we recognise the importance of local church in God’s plan for His world to reach people with the gospel and thus City has a vision to intentionally plant around the Birmingham area.
- Pragmatically because we had somewhat outgrown the premises where City met at that time, and so were seeking to make space for further growth.
Who?
The church started at 39 adults and 6 children all of whom moved across from City. We are a diverse bunch of people but are united around our trust in the gospel of grace and our desire to see this area of Birmingham impacted by that gospel.
We are lead by 3 pastors:
Dan Steel
Dan is married to Zoe and they have two children: Ellie & Barney. They have recently returned into the area having studied at Oak Hill Theological College. Zoe works part-time as a GP in Cotteridge. Dan works in a full time capacity for the church.
Mike Summerfield
Mike is married to Michelle and they have three children: Gabi, Keziah and Elise. The family originally hail from New Zealand and hope to return there to work in gospel ministry in the medium future. Mike works for 4 days each week at Birmingham University.
Andy Weatherley
Andy is married to Jo who works for a housing support organisation. He is working part-time for the church and also commuting each week to study at Oak Hill Theological College. Andy was previously a UCCF Staffworker for the Midlands area, helping to support Christian students.
